March 21, 2019– Cambridge, ON - For the 13th year, Energy+ employee chefs held their Chili Cook-Off on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 12:00 p.m.  This annual event put employees head-to-head in a friendly competition to see who is the “Chili Master”. All proceeds raised through the event go to United Way Waterloo Region Communities and the United Way of Brant.

This year, 14 hydro volunteers cooked up pots of homemade chili with their own secret signature ingredients. All Energy+ employees then made donations, in order to taste their colleagues’ creations and submit their vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Celebrity judges were Greg Durocher, President & CEO of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, Anita Davis, Chair of the Energy+ Board of Directors and Frank Curnew, United Way Waterloo Region Communities, all of whom will ultimately determined which employee is crowned Chili Master.

“The Chili Cook-off event is the official start of our annual workplace United Way campaign. Our team really looks forward to the delicious food and friendly competition it offers,” said Ian Miles, Energy+ President & CEO. “It’s a creative way our team pulls together to volunteer their time and support our local communities.”

In 2018, Energy+ delivered $45,000 to the United Way Waterloo Region Communities and the United Way of Brant. The local hydro utility workplace campaign includes employee pledges, employer matching funds and a number of fundraising events.  In the past 19 years, Energy+ has raised over $500,000 for the United Way.
